2020-21 English Premier League match report – Leeds United v Leicester City – Bramall Lane – Monday, November 2, 2020
Leeds United 1 Leicester City 4
Youri Tielemans scored a brace as Leicester City handed out a 1-4 drubbing to a tough Leeds United outfit away at Bramall Lane on Monday night.
In fact it were the hosts who almost fired the first salvo a minute from the start when Jack Harrison's perfect cross from the left found an unmarked Patrick Bamford but all the prolific striker could do was head straight to Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel from six yards.
They were made to pay for this miss seconds later as defender Robin Koch's sloppy back pass fell to Jamie Vardy who unselfishly squared for Harvey Barnes to stroke into an empty net.
0-1 to the Foxes in as early as the 2nd minute.
The visitors were rampant in their attacks after that with Barnes and Vardy combining beautifully upfront to trouble the Leeds defenders a lot.
It was only a matter of time before the Foxes got their second of the night.
Vardy was seen dodging past Koch to execute a powerful header from a Marc Albrighton cross but goalkeeper Illan Meslier‘s futile save rebounded kindly to Tielemans who made it 0-2 in the 21st minute.
Leeds tried counter-attacking in their customary style against the hard pressing game of Leicester but somehow their moves lost steam midway.
Marcelo Bielsa's side emerged from the break a different team and were immediately on the scoresheet in the 48th minute, as Stuart Dallas's in-swinging cross sailed directly into the far corner of the net.
Pablo Hernandez then hit the bar for Leeds with a superb curling effort from the edge of the box. Brendan Rodgers reacted by bringing in James Maddison and Cergiz Under with little of an hour's play gone.
The move worked as Maddison found Under who picked out Vardy for the Foxes striker to tap in for their third in the 76th minute.
Vardy could have got one more a little later but he shot wide.
Tielemans was once more on the scoresheet in the first minute of stoppage time with a clinical penalty into the top corner after VAR had spotted Mateuz Klich's foul on Maddison just inside the area.
The Bramall Lane home loss leaves Leeds on the 12th spot, but only three points outside the top four.
