UEFA Champions' League Group B – RZD Arena – Tuesday, 28 October 2020 – Matchday 2 of 6 report
Lokomotiv Moscow 1 Bayern Munich 2
After having thrashed Atletico Madrid 4-0 last week in their Champions' League opener, title-holders Bayern Munich chalked up a much more subdued win away win of 1-2 against Lokomotiv Moscow.
The Russians, who have one point, from their 2-2 draw against RB Salzburg last week, found a chance early on but Fyodor Smolov's header in the 3rd minute went wide.
Bayern went in front in the 13th minute when Leon Goretzka met Benjamin Pavard's volleyed cross to head home powerfully from six yards.
The Bundesliga giants were presented with a string of chances to extend their lead with Kingsley Coman's shot hitting the foot of the post minutes later from another Pavard assist.
Joshua Kimmich couldn't capitalize from a goalmouth opportunity when he shot straight at a defender from just a couple of yards.
The Munich side were punished for their misses as the hosts equalized in the 70th minute through Anton Miranchuk who slotted the ball in following a quick break from Ze Luis.
The Russians not being able to cope with the pace and pressure of Bayern finally relented when Kimmich picked up the ball on the edge of the box and superbly volleyed on the turn into the bottom corner to give his side the winner in the 78th.
Lokomotiv are now in the third place having earned just a point from their two games and behind second-placed Atletico Madrid who registered their first win edging out RB Salzburg 3-2 at home to be on 3 points.
