[/su_panel] In a scintillating affair between the finalists of the previous year, PSG were threatened a dominating Bayern Munich side repeatedly on the counter and came very close to scoring on quite a few occasions. While Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting's first half goal gave the champions hope of a comeback, the Parisiennes tested rival goalkeeper Manuel Neuer a number of times and twice hit the woodwork through Neymar. [su_quote]Bayern were on the front-foot for most of the first half with Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman putting pressure from the flanks but without the prolific Robert Lewandowski, the champions lacked the cutting edge.[/su_quote]

PSG were as usual deadly on the counter with the speed of Kylian Mbappe and the guiles of Neymar and Angel di Maria troubling the Bayern defense no end.  Neymar saw his flick come off the crossbar in the 37th minute and went even closer a minute later when his thumping effort came off the base of the post following a beautiful pass from Mbappe.

Just when it seemed that PSG could find the back of the net at any time, Choupo-Moting rose high as he muscled past Presnel Kimpembe to head in from close range in the 40th minute. This was after Keylor Navas was forced to keep out a low effort by David Alaba from a few yards out following a smart Coman move.

PSG were at the rival goal from the start of the second half as Di Maria sent in a dangerous low cross across the Bayern goal, but a sliding Neymar missed it by inches with an empty goal staring at him.

[su_quote]The hosts thought that they had put the tie to bed when Mbappe broke clear into the Bayern half to fire the ball past Neuer into the top corner only to be judged offside.[/su_quote]

Bayern threw everything at PSG in the last 10 minutes but lacked the top-quality finishing that someone like Lewandowski or Serge Gnarby could have provided against a well-organized PSG defense.

Sane's low cross into the six-yard box in stoppage time that was well dealt with by Navas was the only real threat in that phase as the hosts hung on and made their way through to the semi-finals.
