UEFA Champions' League Group E report – Sevilla vs. Chelsea – Wednesday, 2 December 2020 – Matchday 5 of 6 report
Sevilla 0 Chelsea 4 – Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan
Olivier Giroud put four past Sevilla as Chelsea finished at the top of Group E on Wednesday night. Kai Havertz's early burst set up Giroud who cut back and curled his shot to far post with his left foot to give the visitors the lead in the 8th minute. It was lackluster after that as both sides failed to create any opportunities till the interval except for a Antonio Rudiger header from a corner that was cleared off the line towards the end of the first half.
The Blues didn't have to wait for long for their second post the break as Giroud doubled his tally when he chipped a right-footed finish over Sevilla keeper Alfonso Pastor after a lovely set-up from Mateo Kovacic. 0-2 for Chelsea in the 54th minute. The 34-year old French striker completed his hat-trick in the 74th with a glancing header from a from a N'Golo Kante cross.
Giroud scored his fourth of the night from the penalty spot making Pastor go the wrong way. This was after he was brought down by Sergio Gomez as the two went for a cross angled into the box.
Even with their lead scorer Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech coming in late in the 84th and 67th minutes respectively, Frank Lampard's outfit were a powerful attacking unit with Christian Pulisic, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Giroud all making a start for the Sevilla game.
Europa League champs Sevilla on the other hand, sure of their place in the Round of 16, were without a number of frontline players and were compelled to hand goalkeeper Alfonso Pastor a debut after Tomas Vaclik was injured in the warm-up to Wednesday night's clash.
Chelsea's last fixture of the Group will be with bottom-placed Krasnodar whom they host at Stamford Bridge on the 8th while Sevilla travel to France to play Rennes on the same night.
